Frio-Horse Cryotherapy

Frio-Horse can be used post exercise to quickly and effectively cool the legs after exertion, as the application of cold helps reduce pain and swelling. All four legs can be cooled at the same time using this unit, or pads can be split into pairs and used on two horses at once. The temperature being applied to the leg is measured at the point the coolant enters that pad, meaning that the horse’s owner or trainer knows the exact temperature being applied. It is also proven to be 14 times more efficient than ice or cool packs. It is common knowledge that trauma is best treated by cooling at the point of injury.

Why use Frio-Horse?

  1. To reduce tissue swelling and further injury developing.
  2. To bring down the inflammation which is inevitable after a trauma.
  3. To reduce the CRP value in the blood (C-Reactive Protein).
  4. To relieve the pain and to give a feeling of relaxation.
  5. To increase the blood circulation (happens when the boots are removed) so the body has the chance to remove all toxic residues and to regenerate new cells.

The temperature being applied to the leg is measured at the point the coolant enters that pad, meaning that the horse’s owner or trainer knows the exact temperature being applied. Tests have proven that this type of application lowers the CRP level and penetrates at least 5cm. Most swellings disappear within 3 days or less. The recovery process is faster and the inflammation is brought down quickly or even avoided by using Frio-Horse. Effective cooling powered by electricity avoiding the use of anti-inflammatory drugs or ice.
