Static Magnetic Therapy
The use of magnets to relieve pain has been practised for over 2000 years. Now, with the benefits of modern materials and technology, magnets can be made very small, unobtrusive and powerful – ideal for animal therapy.
Studies have shown that this natural, non-invasive therapy relieves pain and helps promote the body’s natural healing process by improving blood flow, and therefore oxygen, to injured areas. Magnetic therapy is a complementary way to enhance the relief of pain.
The magnets themselves do not heal – they create an environment in the body that helps speed up the natural healing process by removing inflammation and restoring circulation. It is believed this is achieved when the blood stream and nerves are stimulated as the blood passes through the magnetic field.
Whilst massage can be used for relaxation, it can also be used to tone and warm up muscles and improve circulation, thus oxygenating the muscles and removing waste products. In addition, it can help move lymph, blood and oxygen around the body.
Just as human athletes can benefit from sports massages to help loosen tight muscles and maintain optimum performance, horses can too. When this therapy is included inside products, the strategically placed cyclonic modules work on key muscle groups at the correct pressure and sequence to generate the best possible results.
As with humans, massage can be used to help maintain condition and can also be used for general well being, for relaxation, pre or post exercise and for rehabilitation.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy
Pulsed Electromagnetic Therapy, also referred to as PEMF, uses a range of different frequencies to help stimulate different cells in the body, helping them to work more efficiently.
Whilst PEMF can be used day to day for general health and well being, it can also be used for rehabilitation and healing, helping to aid the repair of soft tissue injuries, reducing inflammation, for pain relief and even the healing of fractures.
“The effectiveness of PEMF therapy has been FDA approved for the healing of certain injuries.”
Heat treatment relaxes and soothes the muscles, increases circulation, reduces stiffness and relieves pain. The warmth generated dilates the blood vessels of the chronic areas. This increases blood flow and helps to re-oxygenate and relax the muscles and ligaments.
In the treatment of muscle and ligament injuries, heat is normally applied during the repair stage of the injury. Also, when applied to tight muscles, heat helps to relax the muscle which prevents injury.
Light Therapy has many uses depending on the type of light used, the wavelength and the delivery method. In the case of animals, light therapy is most commonly used to help accelerate wound and muscle healing, and assist with the management of pain.
Whilst light therapy can be used on existing issues, it can also be used on areas prone to strain.
This reduces the risk of injury after heavy exercise such as eventing, showjumping, racing or hunting. Cold treatment brings rapid relief from the pain, bruising and swelling of recent tissue damage.
Treatment should start as soon as possible after the injury and applying ‘cold’ will decrease the blood flow and reduce the inflammation.
