Two effective therapies in one rug! Being the little sister to the popular Activo-Med Combi Pro this new rug makes advanced physiotherapy technology available to a wider market with a lower price. The Activo-Med Combi Sport is a traditional rug shape and offers both pulsed electromagnetic and cyclonic massage therapies. Like the Combi Pro it has preset pre-warm up therapy programmes for use before riding plus preset programmes for use after exercise. It is also lightweight, easy to use and horse-friendly with no trailing cables. It is also available with either massage only or pulsed electromagnetic only components to further reduce the cost.
The Activo-Med Combi Sport can be purchased with or without therapy leg wraps and will cost approximately £800 less than the Combi Pro. To achieve the reduced cost the manufacturer has excluded the integral neck piece and reduced the variable options on the control box resulting in a rug that provides excellent PEMF and cyclonic massage therapy using a choice of preset programmes to meet the day to day needs of the smaller yard.
The rug is made using the Activo-Med standard mix of breathable Gorex and mesh and coloured red with blue trim. Like the Combi Pro, the control box is fitted neatly and securely to the rug and comes with long lasting batteries which have no memory effect so can be recharged as often as you like. The complete rug cover is totally removable and machine washable.

Having used the Activo-Med Combi System for over 2 years now I can honestly say it’s worth the investment 10 times over! Whilst the Activo-Med systems are excellent for rehabilitation, I use the pulsed electromagnetic and massage rug on all the horses both before they are worked to loosen and relax their muscles and after to aid the recovery process. The magnetic element of the system is particularly effective and the Combi Pro has become a very important part of our daily routine for optimising each horse’s performance. The systems are easy to use, breathable, lightweight and horse-friendly.
I also use the Activo-Med Lasers regularly and find them vital for speeding up the healing process on knocks, bruises and strains plus they are great for maintaining old injuries. We use them regularly as part of our physiotherapy process on the acupressure points in areas prone to strain.
The Activo-Med systems are extremely versatile. Like people, every horse is slightly different and these systems can be easily set up to suit individual horses, giving them all the opportunity to perform at their best. It’s a system that definitely won’t sit in the cupboard forgotten.

HOW IT WORKS
The system contains 4 lines of strategically placed PEMF spools and 5 lines of massage modules. The control box on the rug activates the PEMF and massage components and operates both applications. You only have to choose one of the 9 preset programmes and select 'start' leaving you free to carry out other tasks without having to stand with the horse.
COMPONENTS
The Control Box
The Combi+System is operated with a specially designed multi-function control box based on the latest micro processor technology. Together with the lightweight battery unit, the control box is put in a small plastic wallet and secured directly on the top of the rug.

The programmable microprocessor offers a large range of options to create individual therapy programs. The therapy time, frequency and intensity can be easily changed.
The PEMF spools and massage modules in the blanket, boots and probe connect to the back of the central control unit which plugs into the battery. The battery has a simple on/off button and lasts for approximately 10 treatments before recharging is required.
The Rug
The Combi Sport rug ensures complete stimulation. It is made from high quality materials chosen to enable practical use either in the stable or outside at competitions in all weather conditions. The rug is lightweight, robust and cool: the cover is made from Goretex which allows air to circulate through the blanket during treatments and the sides are made from strong double sewn mesh. It has 1 fully adjustable chest clip, belly straps and a tail strap to ensure a snug and secure fit.
The rug contains:
- 8 powerful massage modules
- 12 magnetic spools (3 spools per line).
PEMF Boots
The boots are made from Goretex and fix to the leg like a travel boot using elastic Velcro. They cover from the sensitive part of the hoof up to the carpal joint. They are easy to use and offer a wide spectrum of treatment. Each boot contains 2 magnetic spools and works using the same principle as the rug.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy (PEMF) uses a range of frequencies and intensities to stimulate different cells in the body. This helps to promote cells with different functions to work more efficiently. The effectiveness of PEMF therapy has been FDA approved and is widely used by well-known organisations such as the NHS.
All electromagnetic fields are charged with energy generated by electric current: where current flows, magnetism develops.
The components are put directly on the horse’s body. The PEMF rug, boots and probe contain copper spools that create magnetic fields with electric power supplied by the battery provided.
The equipment comes in a small and robust carrying bag for easy storage and transportation.
The 4 important factors for successful therapy sessions are:

- Time/duration (minutes)
- Combination of treatments.

CLEANING
Stables and horses are not terribly clean. Don’t worry! The rug and boots are washable at 30 degrees C. The components are self-contained and are easily removed for washing.
The equipment should be stored and operated in a dry place.
